This past weekend Derby Dinner Playhouse opened their new Children’s Musical Theater show, CHARLOTTE’S WEB.

CHARLOTTE’S WEB is the classic story based on E.B. White’s best-selling, award-winning book, brought to life in this b2ap3_thumbnail_Charlottes-Web-Photo-2016.jpgheartwarming musical.  Meet Fern as she saves the runt of the litter and names him Wilbur.  Follow this spunky pig as he moves to Zuckerman’s farm and gets to know the beautiful spider, Charlotte.  Learn about friendship, trust, loyalty, and the cycles of life.

The marvelous cast does a phenomenal job of bring the classic storybook characters to life.  With simple head pieces and
changes to their voices and posture, they teach kids how easy it is to use your imagination to tell a story.  The cast includes Bill Hanna, who plays the loveable Wilbur.  Janet Essenpreis appears as the classy spider, Charlotte.  She is so friendly and kind and my youngest loved her.  Sally Scott plays both Fern, Wilbur’s adorable owner, and the farmyard lamb, switching back and forth seamlessly.  Rounding out the cast is J.R. Stuart as Templeton, Cary Wiger as Mr. Goose, Tim Stucky who plays a multitude of roles and keep your laughing throughout, and Kiersten Vorheis who plays Mrs. Goose.  My children came home and wanted to act out the story and pretend to be various farm yard animals all afternoon!  I know the show made a true impact on them!

All public performances of CHARLOTTE’S WEB are on Saturdays with Breakfast at 9:00 a.m. and Lunch at 12:00 p.m.  Evening performances have been added on Monday - March 14 and Monday - March 28 at 5:45 p.m.  All performances feature a kid-friendly menu.  This production is most suitable for ages 3 to 12.  We went to a breakfast performance and loved the new additions to the menu, which include tater tots and various breakfast cereals.

CHARLOTTE’S WEB is under the direction of Tina Jo Wallace and was adapted for the stage by Greylyn Gregory. Songs featured in CHARLOTTE’S WEB are “A Promise Is A Promise”, “Good Mornin”, “Friends Like You”, and more!

Public performances run February 27, March 5, 12, 14, 19, 26, 28, & April 2, 2016.  For ticket information please call 812-288-8281 or visit
