Derby Dinner Playhouse JINGLE ARRGH THE WAY Review!
Derby Dinner Playhouse has done it again . . . they have produced a musical for their Children’s Theater that is just as good for kids as it is for adults! I can’t say it enough, I love their Children’s Musical Theater series! They put on the best shows for kids hands down! The newest offering is “JINGLE ARRGH THE WAY! – A CHRISTMAS PIRATE ADVENTURE” The Musical. My kids loved last year’s similar show of “How I Became A Pirate” and this show is based from that so I knew we were in for a treat!
Upon entering the theater, you will notice that Derby Dinner has been transformed for the holidays. From the gorgeous snow trimmed trees adorning the lobby, to the red and green tinsel covering the walls! It all makes for such fun. The gift shop has a wide array of Christmas décor and giftables, the perfect time to get a little shopping done! As you visit the buffet, you will find great items for both adults and kids! At the Breakfast buffet we had cheesy hasbrown casserole, French toast sticks, biscuits and gravy, ham, baked apples and more! While you wait for the show to start, the programs always have fun puzzles or crosswords in them for kids. My 7 yr old loves these!
While you eat, Santa and Mrs. Claus come around to visit every table and give every child a pirate eye patch!
In this swashbuckling musical adventure, the Pirates are back seeking out young Jeremy Jacob to help them solve a riddle from a mysterious message left on their ship. Captain Braid Beard and his crew are looking for Christmas treasure and find themselves taking a journey to the North Pole to find “you know who.” Favorite pirate characters, a rollicking story, and great songs make this musical a perfect holiday show for the whole family. The cast was highly entertaining. Gabe Hughes (Jeremy Jacob), J.R. Stuart (Braid Beard), Bill Hanna (Swill), John Vessels (Sharktooth), Kevin Crain (Pierre), David Myers (Max) and Cary Wiger (Santa) all worked together as a great team, keeping us entertained for an hour straight! I love that the children’s shows are just the right length. There are fabulous sets and costumes to keep the kids watching the entire time! This show brought a real Pirate ship to life, as well as elements of the North Pole, including snow! My children were amazed to see snow falling from the sky inside the theater! They were also equally amazed to meet the cast and show off their Pirate eye patches!
JINGLE ARRGH THE WAY! is based on a story by Melinda Long, author of “How I Became A Pirate”. The book, music, and lyrics for this musical were written by Janet Yates Vogt and Mark Friedman. Musical numbers featured are “Yo Ho, Who Knows”, “Pirate Carols”, “A Very Strong Wit”, and more! This musical was directed by Tina Jo Wallace.
