I recently had the pleasure of going to Derby Dinner Playhouse on a Monday evening for one of their special event concerts!   Derby Dinner offers a wide variety of these types of shows on Monday evenings throughout the year.  They bring in extremely talented vocalists or specialty acts and you get a great show, along with the same great meal they always offer.

On the night I attended, I was treated to an evening with Mo5aic!  Yes, I spelled that right!  They are an extremely talented group of guys who do everything A capella.  Literally speaking, they make music without instruments.  You would think you are hearing an entire band, but you are really just hearing all of the interesting ways they know how to manipulate their voices.  Made up of Jake, Josh, Corwyn, Heath and Roo, these guys know how to sing their hearts out.  They entertained us for more than 2 hours with songs from every genre and blew us away with solos featuring their insane ability to mimic instruments with their voices.  Jake Moulton alone performed a beat box percussionist solo that you would have bet money someone in the background was playing drums on!   They even got the audience involved with songs like “The Lion Sleeps Tonight."  It was also especially fun for the Louisville-based audience, as Corwyn Hodge is a Louisville native and a fellow Youth Performing Arts School Alumni like me!  From Moetwon to musicals, opera, to modern day rap there wasn't any song they could not do.  Their rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody is breath-taking and if you go to their Facebook page, you can find out how to download it for free!

Mo5aic has won numerous awards, including MTV’s Top Pop Group in 2008 and they have opened for such superstaars as Prince, Taboo of the Black Eyed Peas, Stevie Wonder, and Jay Leno.  They are currently a featured act in Las Vegas at the V Theatre inside Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino.  Tony Bennet has been quoted as saying they are “the best vocal group I have ever heard.”  To learn more about them or to download some of their wonderful music, visit their website here: http://www.mo5aic.com/

This is the type of top notch show Derby Dinner strives to continue to bring to their stage!  Future concert events this year include: The Monarchs, The World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra, Branson on the Road, Good Rockin’ Live – A Salute to Sun Records, The Return Beatles Tribute Band, and the ever popular Evening with the Footnotes!  All of these offer great date night opportunities or a fun way to get out with friends and family!  Tickets are approximately $36 per person and include a wonderful buffet meal.
