I had the pleasure of attending the opening night performance of Finding Neverland last night at the KY Center for the Arts!  This show kicks off PNC Broadway in Louisville’s 2017-2018 season and it was wonderful!  I was transported to a whole new world for the few hours I was there and the characters portrayed in the entire production were fantastic!

Based on the Academy Award-winning Miramax motion picture by David Magee, and the play The Man Who Was Peter Pan by Allan Knee, Finding Neverland follows the relationship between playwright J.M. Barrie and the family that inspired Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up – one of the most beloved stories of all time. Directed by Tony®-winner Diane Paulus (Pippin, Hair) with book by Olivier Award®-nominee James Graham, music and lyrics by Gary Barlow (Take That) and Grammy Award®- winner Eliot Kennedy, and choreography by Emmy Award®-winner Mia Michaels (“So You Think You Can Dance,” Cirque du Soleil’s Delirium), this new musical, packed with mesmerizing visuals, irresistible songs and plenty of laughs, is a timeless story about the power of imagination… and spectacular proof that you never really have to grow up.  The production features scenic design by Tony Award®-winner Scott Pask (Pippin, Book of Mormon), lighting design by Tony Award®-winner Kenneth Posner (The Coast of Utopia, Pippin), costume design by Suttirat Larlarb (Of Mice and Men), sound design by Tony Award®-nominee Jonathan Deans (Pippin, La Cage aux Folles), hair and make-up design by Richard Mawbey, projection design by Jon Driscoll, music supervision by Fred Lassen, musical direction by Ryan Cantwell and casting by Stewart/Whitley.

The entire cast did a phenomenal job in their roles, but Billy Harrigan Tighe and Lael Van Keuren had wonderful chemistry together.  Playing J.M. Barrue is no small feat and Tighe’s vocals were on point.  Van Keuren’s Sylvia Llewelyn Davies stayed right in tune with him the entire time.  There are also four young boys who portray the Llewelyn Davies clan and their spirit and energy lit up the stage!  Connor Casey, Colin Wheeler, Wyatt Cirbus, and Tyler Hennessy put so much life and emotion into these four young boys.  Perhaps one of the biggest stars of the show was Sammy, the adorable pooch who becomes a great part of the story.  Much like the film version, Finding Neverland whisks the audience away to Neverland at times and the entire stage is transformed and filled with all of your favorite characters from the beloved Peter Pan story!  By the end of the show there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.  The show teaches you to certainly live life to the fullest, love those around you while you still have them, and don’t ever grow up too much!  Bring some tissues for sure!

FINDING NEVERLAND will play The Kentucky Center October 24-29. The performance schedule is Tuesday through Thursday evenings at 7:30 pm, Friday & Saturday evenings at 8 pm, Saturday matinee at 2 pm, Sunday matinee at 1 pm, and Sunday evening at 6:30 pm.
