I received a sampler of Daregal Gourmet fresh frozen herbs to review as a part of a Blog Friendly PR campaign. All opinions are my own and no compensation was received.

I love to cook and we eat a lot of Thai and Vietnamese food at our house. When Daregal Gourmet offered the chance to try their Fresh Frozen herbs I jumped at the opportunity. Dried Basil and Cilantro just don't have the flavor of fresh herbs and our grocer doesn't always have the fresh herbs I need. Daregal Gourmet Herbs are available year round. We had a basil plant during the Summer but sadly if you don't water those they die.

I received Basil, Cilantro, Parsley and Garlic from Daregal Gourmet. These are the herbs I use the most in cooking and I love that they come washed, chopped and ready to use. While they are frozen they sprinkle easily from the container and last up to 3 years frozen. Today seemed like a great day to try them out in one of my favorite recipes.  Thai Basil Ground Chicken.

1 lb. ground chicken breast
4 cloves garlic, chopped
1/2 teaspoon chili flakes or 1 fresh red chile, chopped
3 Tbsp. white cooking wine
1 medium onion, slice
1/2 cup basil
1/4 cup cilantro
2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
3 Tbsp. oyster sauce
1 Tbsp. fish sauce
1 Tbsp. lime juice
2 Tbsp. brown sugar
2 Tbsp. Sweet Chili Sauce
Combine the sauce ingredients together in a cup, stirring to dissolve sugar. Set aside.
Heat a wok or large frying pan over medium-high heat. Add oil and swirl around, then add the garlic and chili. Stir-fry 1 minute to release the fragrance, then add the chicken and cooking wine.
Add the onion, plus 3/4 of the stir-fry sauce you made earlier. Stir-fry until onion has softened but is still a little crisp(about 2 minutes).
Reduce heat to medium-low and add remaining sauce. Stir together. Add in basil and cilantro. Simmer 5 minutes and serve.

Daregal Gourmet is a family owned company since 1887. They use a quick freezing process which preserves the flavor, color, texture and fragrance of fresh herbs. I was truly surprised at the quality of the herbs.

I know you want to try them too! They are currently available on Amazon.com and in the Northeast region at Stop N Shop, Giant Landover and Shaws.

What are some of your favorite recipes using fresh herbs? Which of the herbs from Daregal Gourmet would you like to try?

Did you find you needed to 'wake up' the herbs at all? I am not sure if you would need to do that with flash frozen or just dried herbs.
