RODGERS + HAMMERSTEIN'S CINDERELLA opened the PNC Broadway in Louisville 2015/2016 Season last night to a crowd that was singing along and dancing in their seats!  This 2013 Tony® Award-winning Broadway musical from the creators of South Pacific and The Sound of Music, will play The Kentucky Center for a limited engagement through Sunday.

With its fresh new take on the beloved tale of a young woman who is transformed from a chambermaid into a princess, this hilarious and romantic Rodgers + Hammerstein's CINDERELLA combines the story's classic elements – glass slippers, pumpkin, and a beautiful ball along with some surprising twists. More than b2ap3_thumbnail_16551_show_landscape_large_02.jpgjust a pretty face with the right shoe size, this Cinderella is a contemporary figure living in a fairytale setting. She is a spirited young woman with savvy and soul who doesn't let her rags or her gowns trip her up in her quest for kindness, compassion and forgiveness. She longs to escape the drudgery of her work at home and instead work to make the world a better place. She not only fights for her own dreams, but forces the prince to open his eyes to the world around him and realize his dreams too.

This show is bright and spirited and fun!  There are some elements that audience members will recognize from the story they know, but there are a lot of differences too.  The cast is led by two very strong leading characters, Paige Faure as Ella and Andy Huntington Jones as Topher.  Their chemistry is great as are their strong vocal and dance skills.  In my Own Little Corner is a song Faure really shines on and they both give a wonderful rendition of Ten Minutes Ago.  The costuming and set designs in this show are spectacular.  There are so many colors floating around the stage!  As the Marie, the Fairy Godmother, Liz McCartney makes magic.  She herself floats around the b2ap3_thumbnail_l_rsz_cin-1.jpgstage but also helps to magically change Cinderella's dress from rags to gorgeous ballgown and helps make a dazzling horse-drawn carriage appear on stage! Adding comedic relief is the stepmother and stepsister, none of which are as ugly or evil as previous versions of this story would make them out to be!

This is truly a show for the whole family!  I took my 9 year old son for his birthday and he loved it!  Get the kids together and go see the show this week before it is gone! They will love the lights, the colors, the dancing, and the music!
