Derby Dinner Playhouse presents the smash hit, SHREK THE MUSICAL, now running through August 18, 2019.

Our whole family attended the opening night production last week and everyone had so much fun!  This is a great way to have a fun family night during the summer months whole the kids are out of school!

Irreverently fun for the whole family, SHREK THE MUSICAL proves that beauty is truly in the eye of the ogre.  Based on the popular DreamWorks animated film, SHREK THE MUSICAL is a Tony Award-winning fairytale adventure with all the beloved characters from the film brought to life on stage. "Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek...." and thus begins the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short-tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude, and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you've got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there's one on hand...and his name is Shrek.

I had forgotten just how many characters there are in this play, but the cast did an excellent job of portraying all of them perfectly!  My boys loved seeing many of the fairy tale characters like Pinnochio, The Gingerbread Man, Peter Pan, the Ugly Ducking and more come to life!  The two main numbers "Story of my Life" and "Freak Flag" with all the fairy tale characters were quite an undertaking for choreographer Heather Paige Folsom, but the stage came to life with everyone playing their parts!

I can't say enough about how incredible Bobby Conte as Shrek is!  Even with a latex mask and a heavy body costume, he gave 100% the entire night and his accent was spot on.  He played well off both his main co-stars, Cami Glauser as Fiona and Andrew Coleman as Donkey.  His vocals blew me away!  And of course, Blake Graham as Lord Farquaad, stole the show whenever he appeared on stage in his small stature.  I laughed until I cried!
