We went to the opening performance of SLEEPING BEAUTY, the Musical, at Derby Dinner Playhouse this past weekend and had a great time!  As are all of the shows they produce, this was an exceptional show with top-notch performers and a story line the kids could easily relate to. A spinning wheel, an evil curse and true love’s kiss? All three are revealed in this musical adaptation of the story of Princess Aurora. Will her charming Prince break the spell in time?

The show starts off with the lovable Lem Jackson as the Prince.  He has lost something and doesn't remember what, and he makes the kids giggle over and over again!  We then meet the King and Queen, played by Bill Hanna and Sandra Rivera, who long to keep their new daughter safe for all time.  In this version, the evil Fairy is named Cryzon and is portrayed by Chris Bryant.  He does a fabulous job of not being too scary for the kids, but instead makes them laugh most of the time.  The beautiful fairy, Crystalline, played by Annette McCulloch, dances across the stage in sparkling wings and helps to protect Beauty.  Beauty herself, played by Sally Scoot, is a down to earth and more of a no-fuss princess who eventually finds her Prince Charming and the two realize they are "Meant to be."

SLEEPING BEAUTY was written for the Derby Dinner stage by Greylyn Gregory with Music by John Spencer.  Songs featured in SLEEPING BEAUTY are “What’s In A Name”, “Such A Night”, “We Were Meant To Be”, and more!  Derby Dinner’s production of SLEEPING BEAUTY is under the direction of Kevin Crain.
